Our cry for “Ipa-WIFI ang Pinas!” will soon become a reality. The City Government of Makati jumpstarts a project that will give free city-wide WIFI access powered by the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT). This was unveiled today, in time of City Mayor Jejomar Erwin “Junjun” Binay’s 35th birthday.
The roll out began at Makati City Hall and is utilized by residents and companies transacting with the local government. There is an existing fiber loop infrastructure in the city which will eventually be the backbone for the full implementation of the said project.
In conjunction with the effort, they created the city’s twitter account @MakatiTraffic which aims to give commuters and motorists a heads up regarding traffic situation in the city. The city’s web portal (http://www.makati.gov.ph) was also relaunched with a more user-friendly interface.
